DIY House Bed

April 7, 2020 D.I.Y.

A house bed for 4500 rubles. Boards: 1600 rubles, two liters of “child-safe” varnish: 1500 rubles, a slatted bed base from IKEA: 800 rubles, sandpaper: 300 rubles, fasteners: 300 rubles.

I made it based on this model: Wings children’s house bed, 700x1600, 6510 rubles:

You can often find this configuration, without the upper horizontal crossbar.

What bothers me here is how reliable it is. When the child grows up, she will absolutely hang from the very top crossbar at some point. Will the lower fastenings in the drawing have enough rigidity so the whole thing does not come apart?

I like buying beams and boards at Leroy Merlin. But there you have to choose them yourself: to find one straight beam, you have to go through three or four crooked ones. If you order delivery, I am afraid to imagine what they would bring.

Planed pine 50x50x2000 beams and 20x146x2000 boards

At first I was going to buy Tikkurila Kiva 30.

After reading reviews online and seeing what else was available in the store, I bought Pinotex.

After the first coat dried completely, I sanded it with fine sandpaper and applied a second coat of varnish. It turned out great. And twice as cheap as Tikkurila.

I tested fastening with a confirmat screw. on scraps. I drilled the holes in turn with two different diameters. I did not buy a universal drill bit after reading reviews.

Of course, there was no getting by without project documentation.

Slatted bed base “Luroy” from IKEA.

Mounting the slatted base.

The roof. Remembering geometry. It comes back poorly.

Lights. Also at IKEA I found excellent ones.
