Departure at two in the afternoon, eight hours of flying, arrival at three in the afternoon. The body has a hard time orienting itself in a day like that. The suitcase with clothes, a jacket, fifteen pairs of socks, a MacBook, chargers, a DNA test, and the long-suffering poi somehow did not arrive. Instead they gave me a Mastercard with 70 euros. So now I am across the ocean traveling light, with a little backpack containing a work laptop, a few documents, and a hoodie. Unusual.
Day two. Both phones - a Nokia dialer and an iPhone 4s - are pumpkins here. Neither the home SIM card nor local ones work in them. The frequencies, apparently, are wrong. It seems the iPhone can still be revived through some unusual operators. In the offices of the major operators they just shrug.
They say the suitcase has been found. And supposedly it is flying. But there are no other details. Flying where? From where?
Manhattan is stunningly beautiful from the outside and from the inside. Especially on a clear evening. From inside, it is impossible to photograph anything - the skyscrapers barely fit into three or four consecutive frames, and there is nothing on the phone to stitch them together.
Finnair said that the suitcase did make it to New York and is currently living somewhere there; they advised waiting for a call from the delivery service.
Brooklyn Bridge
I ❤️ NYC
Manhattan from the office windows. A metropolis-metropolis, just as I like it.
Flatiron Building
What I cannot get used to at all is streets stretching to the horizon.
Every time you glance around, you get stuck on that infinity.
The PATH subway. Water drips slowly from the vaults. I did not see any marble finish, but there is a mosaic with a diagram of the tunnel under the Hudson.
MoMA The Museum of Modern Art
There is no space left on the ground, so they made a park on an abandoned elevated railway. It is stunning.
Central Park Manhatan
I was curious whether the ocean coast differs from the coast of the Gulf of Finland in Komarovo.
Yes, it differs a little.
