Islands

September 8, 2011 Leningradskaya oblast

The last trip out of town this season, probably, was to the islands near the village of Sovetsky, outside Vyborg. As usual, here is a link to the map (if you register there, the high-res version should become available, and you can also order a print there; advice: choose the largest format).

Everything took place on the little island of Maly, just west of the northern tip of Shkolny. The island is a rock about 30 by 30 meters.

On this tiny patch of land, five tents stood wall to wall.

Tents

Finnish fish soup. Almost ready. It was very tasty.

In his free time, Seryoga gave rides on the board to anyone who wanted. And on the boat too.

Board rides

A camping sauna. It was especially great, of course, to steam up and then dive into the cold Gulf of Finland.

Tyoma puts freshly caught fish into the smoker. The small ones are on top, and below them lie three large fish; one even had to be bent a little. Pike and perch, with a little roach.

The fish is ready.

Smoked fish

Sunshine, nature, hot fish from the smoker, cold beer from the tap. A fairy tale.

We were very lucky with the weather. On one of the days we even swam just like that, without the sauna.

Later Tyoma also cooked plov in a kazan. In general, the food on this trip felt not like camping food, but like something from a restaurant.

All summer Seryoga had been inviting me on these island trips, and it finally happened at the very end of summer. A little bit of a shame, even. Sergey, thank you for a great weekend.

Sunsets and clouds of stunning beauty.
